Sacred Pilgrimage in the Himalayas
The sacred pilgrimage to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath is India's holiest spiritual circuit. Set amidst the grandeur of the Garhwal Himalayas, the Char Dham Yatra is a journey of faith, endurance, and overwhelming natural beauty.
Walk 18 km through a rhododendron valley to the ancient Shiva temple at 11,755 ft.
Bathe in the naturally heated Tapt Kund before entering the shrine of Lord Vishnu at dawn.
Trek beyond Gangotri town to Gaumukh, the snout of the glacier where the Ganga is born.
Visit India's last inhabited village before Tibet, featuring Vyas Cave and Bhim Pul bridge.
May to June & September to October
The shrines are open only May to November. Summer (May–Jun) has mild days at 10–20 °C. Monsoon (Jul–Aug) brings landslide risk. Autumn (Sep–Oct) offers clear skies and fewer crowds.
Register on the official Char Dham Yatra portal — biometric registration is mandatory.
Carry a medical fitness certificate; altitude sickness is a real risk above 10,000 ft.
Helicopter bookings for Kedarnath sell out months in advance during peak season.
Pack layered clothing, rain gear, a sturdy walking stick, and high-energy snacks.
The full circuit takes 10–12 days by road; plan for rest days at Guptkashi and Joshimath.
